✯ A. Mills Art ✯

WELCOME. I'M ALEX.

I help people build art collections...

A firm believer in and supporter of the beautiful, impactful, and thought-provoking work artists produce, it brings me much joy to share my love of art with others.

...meaningful collections.

Meaningful being the operative word. I approach dealing and collecting from a root love of art and artists, and my hope is to build and guide a love for art and artists in collectors. I value thoughtfulness, skill, and intention in artwork and believe that collected artwork should be loved, lived with, and shared with others.

What I actually do

help you define your tastes, preferences, and interests,

find quality artworks and artists that fall within those parameters, &

work with you to build a cohesive collection over time.

As a ~bonus~, using my experience in the art industry, I can ensure each acquisition is in accordance with the best collecting practices and can coordinate the whole acquisition process from the initial viewing to the installation in your home.

I work with people collecting at all levels, at all financial capacities.

The lovely work to the right is by Demetrius Wilson, from his show at Half Gallery, taken Aug. 3, 2024. More coming on Demetrius's work soon.

This includes but is not limited to:

  • Developing relationships with gallerists, artists, and auction houses on your behalf so that you are a priority when work becomes available.
  • Arranging private viewings, studio visits, and VIP access and personalized tours at local art fairs.
  • Advising and facilitating your acquisitions. By staying in tune with the art market and various art marketplaces (ie. whether you should buy a work from a dealer or auction house) I can make sure you receive the best purchase price.
  • Ensuring proper paperwork for each acquisition that appropriately documents the artwork’s authenticity, an accurate provenance, and your ownership rights.
  • Arranging framing, installation, and anticipating/coordinating further artwork maintenance as necessary.
  • Coordinating loans and other exhibition opportunities for works in your collection.

How it starts:

  • Introduce yourself at the form below.
  • We’ll arrange a meeting, online or in-person, depending on where you are based.*
  • I’ll ask you a few questions to get to know you - what you like, what is important to you, how you envision your collection, and some financial things.
  • If you’re local, we’ll visit a collection  together (a museum most likely) or, you’ll go on your own and send me pictures of things you love and hate, so we can explore your aesthetic preferences. And yes, you have aesthetic preferences, I promise.
  • I’ll start sending you things I think you’ll like, and thus, the journey begins.

*I am currently based in New York City. I am willing and able to travel to meet you if you are within a 3 hour train ride (at the moment).
